Now

that the sunny weather has arrived, isn’t it great to be able to sit outside

some of the restaurants and bars on Carlton Hill and watch the world go by.

It

may not be the streets of Paris or cosmopolitan Italy – but it’s still a great

place to take time out and have a natter to catch up with old friends.

One

of the best places for continental coffee and some delicious food is Fratelli,

opposite the end of Standhill Road.

The

Italian care and wine bar has been running successfully for many years and the

proprietor, Tony Labbate, is happy to welcome friends old and new to sample the

ambience.

As

well as the traditional coffees and patisseries, there are more substantial

baguettes, foccacias and hot food on offer, and he’s licensed to sell wines and

beers.

If

you’ve a business meeting or want to organise a get-together, give him a call

on 0115 940 1355 to find out exactly what he can do for you and your friends.

Or

you can sign up to the newsletter, to tell you about any events and promotions

in the pipeline.

The

new kid on the block is the Piggins Inn Bar, which has taken on the premises of

the former Jalisco’s Mexican where the old Turkish restaurant used to stand,

next door to The Free Man.

The

recent expansion from their former premises a few doors down has opened up a

whole new range of eating and drinking possibilities, and they’re licensed so

that you can enjoy food and drink al fresco and catch some sunshine as you wine

and dine and socialise. You can get more information on their enterprise by

calling 0115

Then

there’s the Wetherspoons, The Free Man, where the Co-op used to stand – and now

benefiting from the demise of The Toby Jug.

Open

8am to midnight every day, and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, it fulfils the

need for a pub venue at the top of Carlton Hill.

There’s

also the standard Wetherspoon food menu available, if you’re after traditional

pub grub.

Are

there any outdoor eating experiences we’ve missed?

I feel inspired! If the sun's out tomorrow I'll toss a coin to see which to visit after 3.
